A valid unpaid request returns x402 v2 HTTP 402. The body is the payment contract, not the product. Malformed input returns HTTP 400 without a payable contract.

Caller-held baseline, then optional VM01 context

Agent Mercantile does not host a scheduler, alert service, or customer history. The caller stores the VM07 baseline outside AM and resubmits that exact compact baseline on a later check. VM07 fingerprints are not exact historical text diffs. Incomplete, truncated, HOLD, or otherwise unusable evidence must not replace a known-good baseline and must not be treated as UNCHANGED.

Valid VM07 input requires a public HTTPS URL on port 443. Empty Coinbase no-body diagnostics cannot supply that URL. AM does not add a fake default URL. Malformed URLs return HTTP 400 without a payable contract.

Existing x402 HTTP machines, discovered through Coinbase

Agent Mercantile does not host an MCP server. Buyers may use Coinbase’s Bazaar MCP as an external discovery/payment bridge to the existing paid HTTP resources. Local or free tools may be enough for simple URL or change checks; pay only if the 402 terms fit.

Current intended buyer route for an existing machine (VM07 Web Change Snapshot, $0.005 / 5000 atomic Base USDC):

1. Required arguments: JSON {"url":"https://..."} plus optional caller-held baseline. Empty {} is HTTP 400 and not payable.
2. Payment prerequisite: x402 v2 exact USDC on Base (eip155:8453). Inspect amount, network, asset, and payTo before authorizing. Do not send a manual USDC transfer.
3. Output: bounded fingerprints and comparison_status (BASELINE, UNCHANGED, CHANGED, INCONCLUSIVE). UNCHANGED is not a guarantee the entire website is unchanged.
4. Provider indexing and curated admission are external and may differ from HTTP Bazaar search. Default Coinbase MCP search is curated-only when curation is enabled; pass curatedOnly: false for broader search. validate_endpoint is not a required AM acceptance dependency.

Coinbase MCP discovery (read-only search_resources only). To execute a discovered tool the provider requires proxy_tool_call plus payment metadata; that is a paid request and is not performed by Agent Mercantile source workers. Example discovery call shape:
